My name is John, and I am Your British Handyman.

We are a registered French company based in the Eastern Riviera. Although we cover the area from Monaco to Menton, we are quite happy to travel inland or further west along the coast. To find out if we can help you werever you live use the Contact form at the right of this page.

No job is too small, in fact it's the small jobs that we prefer, although if you have a larger job you can't get a builder to quote on, please get in touch.

We charge by the hour for small jobs, as an example a call out would be 35 € for the first hour, and in many cases a small job can be fixed in that hour. Subsequent hours are at a rate of 25 € per hour. At the beginning of the job we will tell you how many hours we expect the job to take.

Larger more complex jobs would be at a quoted price.

All the above prices are plus material costs.

Repairing and restoring an ancient water damaged ceiling.

The ceiling in this old village house is lathe and plaster. Water leaking through the roof has damaged the plaster and the stains are caused by the leaking of tannins from the old timber above the plaster (the lathes and roofing structure). This staining will leak through any new finish including new plaster. Because of its traditional construction the ceiling will have to be re-plastered to match the remaining undamaged ceiling, which is over 200 years old, and exhibits a "patina" and structure which must be maintained.

Below is the finished ceiling. The damage has been repaired, and the ceiling re-plastered to match the surrounding old ceiling. The new plaster has been sealed with a shellac based stain sealer to prevent bleed of the tannins. The whole ceiling has been repainted to blend the old with the new.

Combining two properties, opening up stairway, creating new stairs and cupboard under, installing antique doors, block masonary, plastering, tiling floor with reclaimed terracotta.

Creating open kitchen/utility area, involving building new walls within the original wall, plastering and building timber cupboards to separate original damp underground natural rock and stone and restoring original arch with traditional lime morter.
